Research description

Introduction

Education and research in telecommunications were launched at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Automatics, Computer Science and Electronics in early 70'. The Department of Telecommunications was established in 1986.

Now, the Department of Telecommunications is an important centre for education and research in telecommunications and computer networks that holds a high reputation at home and abroad. The department staff consists of 30 persons including 4 professors, 8 assistant professors, 13 assistants, 5 administrative staff, 10 Ph.D. students and a number of M.Sc. students involved in the research work

As a follow-up of the enormous research record at the Department of Telecommunications rights for conferring the title of Ph. D. in telecommunications were granted to the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Automatics, Computer Science and Electronics in 1999.

Research Areas

Major research topics carried out at the Department of Telecommunications include:

  • BISDN based on ATM technique
  • Broadband access networks (xDSL, FITL, WLL)
  • Signalling and intelligent networks
  • Multimedia systems
  • Tele-services including tele-education, tele-working, tele-medicine, tele-commerce
  • Protocols for high speed networks multimedia systems
  • Network management, CORBA applications, mobile agents
  • Cellular communications
  • Distributed databases for telecommunications
  • Performance evaluation of radio communication systems
